Taylor Hicks, an Alabama native, a Flora-Bama friend, and former “American Idol” winner, appears in the indie movie "Stars Fell on Alabama."

American Idol winner, Taylor Hicks, grew up playing at the Flora-Bama and returns often to his gulf coast roots. We were excited to hear about his role in a new movie and it's upcoming release. Taylor has been a great ambassador for our area and we can't wait to see him back on a Flora-Bama stage soon.
Ciara Hanna and James Maslow have the lead roles in "Stars Fell on Alabama," a romantic comedy from Rareform Pictures. Most of the movie was filmed in South Carolina, but director V.W. Scheich says some exterior locations -- such as an airport and an arched bridge -- were filmed in Alabama.
Alabama native Taylor Hicks performs in the indie movie "Stars Fell on Alabama." Hicks says the South Carolina bar used for this dance scene reminded him of the Flora-Bama Lounge on the Florida-Alabama state line. The place also reminded Hicks of Judge Roy Bean, a former watering hole in Daphne. "It was an infamous bayou bar where you would have to perform around their pet goat," Hicks says.
The indie movie will be released for on-demand and digital on Jan. 8, 2021. "I think of the movie as a flip book, or postcards with images of the South," says director V.W. Scheich. Scenes in the film include football, barbecue, country music and Southern hospitality. And yes, some of the characters say, "Roll Tide!"
